Allison Hunter takes a shot at those who'd rather shoot than talk

As we all know the right wing fears Nancy Pelosi greatly. That’s why they’ve attempted to smear her since day one on the Speaker job.

Among our nation’s leaders there is the irrefutable acknowledgement that you have to talk to your enemies whether you like it or not. I talk to Another Skeptic all the time!

The Colorado Springs Gazette has gotten in on the smear game lately. They tried the plane thing, the San Francisco thing, and now the Syria thing. And if  all the tough guys on the right — including Sean Paige at the G — are just that, why are they so afraid to talk to some pipsqueak dental student who runs Syria cuz his dad died?

Allison Hunter isn’t and gave the Gazette whatfor:

I applaud Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the Middle East. Open dialog and communication is always better than ignoring the problem. To all who wrote in who disagree with Pelosi getting involved in foreign policy, maybe you should be more concerned that our own president is not conducting positive foreign policy with Israel and Palestine.

Maybe you should be concerned, and should have been concerned when you elected him for a second time, that President Bush is recognized as the worst foreign policy president we have ever had. That’s scary in this time of international unrest, isn’t it?

Maybe instead of blowing up with petty anger every time you hear the words “Democrat” or “liberal,” you should keep an open mind, research the facts, and make an unbiased, common-sense decision. Instead of spouting off toward people who are your neighbors but subscribe to a different ideology than yourself, why don’t you have a dialog with your opposition and find some common ground? You may actually learn something, or make an informed opinion not based on anger and party politics.

Diplomacy is everyone’s personal responsibility, whether it is in the Constitution or not. I say send ’em all – Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton and whomever else it takes to keep the dialog going in the Middle East. This is much bigger than whose ideology you subscribe to.

And I applaud Allison 100%. We can’t destroy every one of our enemies on earth. We can’t just shoot when those who want to shoot-only won’t sign up and do their share.

Someone’s been watching too many Rambo movies. We know which party Rambo is in: the one that shoots first and asks questions later.

  1. This is the same Allison Hunter who said (and yup – this is a literal quote) that our own Colorado Representative Merrifield “was far too nice in his e-mail” that described a special place in hell for individuals who support charter school and vouchers.

SO ALLISON… YOOHOO… take your own advice – spread it around to folks like Mike Merrifield – and:

“Instead of spouting off toward people who are your neighbors but subscribe to a different ideology than yourself, why don’t you have a dialog with your opposition and find some common ground? You may actually learn something, or make an informed opinion not based on anger and party politics.”

I do NOT applaud Speaker Pelosi for her visit to the Middle East. Anyone who has questions about why we see violence perpetuated in the Middle East (and specifically by Syria against civilian Israeli targets) should read “Why Terrorism Works” by Alan Dershowitz.

  2. Was barely better than Lamborn’s letter to the editor.  And it certianly enchances the stereotype of the “pointy-fingered liberal”.

I don’t like other people doing the State Department’s job.  Jesse Jackson, Bill Richardson, Bill Clinton, Bush Sr., anyone.  What business do they have to engage in foreign policy?
